Fact Check: George Soros Did NOT Die From A Heart Attack Still Alive

Did financier and philanthropist George Soros die from a heart attack?? No, that's not true: The 92-year-old investor is alive, as he himself announced via his Twitter account.

The claim appeared in a video (archived here) on May 15, 2023, posted on TikTok account @tatiana.sevastianova.

The caption, translated by Lead Stories staff, reads:

According to Western media news reports, George Soros passed away. Based on the Worldbulletin, George Soros passed away. The publication shared that George Soros died of a heart attack. The American financial expert, whose name was behind the world conspiracies and orange revolutions, left this world at the age of 92.

This is what the post looked like on TikTok at the time of the writing of this fact check:

The author sourced the false report to Worldbulletin.net, a Turkish-based online media site, which cited a site called "Politics For All Ireland" as its source. Worldbulletin.net wrote:

According to the news in the Western media, George Soros passed away. Is George Soros dead? The explanation has arrived. So what's the real deal?

It published the claim that Soros had died of a heart attack, provided a brief profile of the financier and then added a disclaimer that reads:

George Soros released a statement on Twitter regarding the death claims. "I'm not dead, I'm alive," he said in his question message.

Initially, the rumor appeared on the Twitter account @CilComLFC (here) with a reference to Politics For All Ireland. However, there is no such information on the Politics For All Ireland Twitter page which has not been updated since January 2 and no website is known for Politics For All Ireland.

George Soros himself denied the claim of his death on his Twitter page:

Rumors that I had a heart attack are completely false. I am alive and healthy.

Soros has become a regular target of disinformation by Russian-speaking TikTok users, for example here, here, or here.

The founder of the Open Society Foundations distributed a multitude of education grants in Russia in the 1990s, and currently, the foundations are one of many recognized as "undesirable" organizations in Russia. Soros more recently told a gathering at the Munich Security Conference in February that he thought a Ukrainian victory in the war with Russia would result in the dissolution of Russia's empire.
